Setting It Up

Set up begins as cooler weather approaches we gather together to initiate our beloved annual tradition of creating our Christmas display. A festive project we began in 2005 has evolved into a magical tradition which now enriches our lives and we hope it does the same for visitors.

Preparing and assembling the display requires several weeks of planning together with more than 60 hours of direct labor. Our planning process starts with reviewing successful elements from past displays combined with innovative ideas we want to test. While we maintain the display’s traditional core elements we also enjoy implementing fresh elements such as new songs for our synchronized playlist or innovative lighting effects we’ve been testing during setup. The setup stage is crucial for these fresh elements.

The Set Up Begins

The real work starts after we finish our planning phase. Our installation requires about 70,000 lights along with a walkway light tunnel and musical LED spiral trees together with numerous yard decorations. Powering the entire setup requires using extension cords that stretch over one and a half miles.

Our decorations blend commercial-grade products with homemade creations while focusing on meticulous attention to detail. The entire family participates because we assign everyone different tasks which include hanging lights all the way to managing music software. Despite the challenges involved in this massive set up, witnessing cars queueing, children expressing delight and families visiting annually makes the effort completely worthwhile.

The event represents more than mere illumination because it weaves together joy and tradition along with a touch of Christmas enchantment that truly begins at set up. Every detail is crucial during the set up process to ensure perfect execution. If you come by in late October/early November you’ll likely see us scurrying about, setting things up for you to enjoy when the lights come on for the season!
